What is PIXEL?

PIXEL is the most up-to-date and advanced form of what is commonly called ‘fractional lasers’. This highly-advanced ablative laser system is ideal in the treatment of hyper-pigmentation, sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles and scarring.

What happens during the treatment?

As the PIXEL is an ‘ablative’ laser, it is important that our patients feel as comfortable as possible. Prior to beginning the procedure, the skin is prepared and a topical anesthetic cream applied. PIXEL is then set according to the patient’s specific needs and treatment commences. The PIXEL laser is held over the skin and passed over the treatment area. As the laser is being passed over the skin, it breaks down the bonds in the epidermis. The look on the skin is a series of small dots where the PIXELS have ablated the skin. Post-treatment, ice and medicated creams are applied.

How does the treatment feel?

Although the skin has been treated with a topical anesthetic cream, it may still be possible to feel the PIXEL laser. The best way to describe the feeling of the PIXEL is that of mild sunburn. However, sometimes in order to achieve maximum results the treatment can be made more intense and can therefore be more uncomfortable.

How many treatments will I need?

It all depends on why you are having the PIXEL treatment. For wrinkles, it may be anything from 1 to 3. For deeper acne scars, you may require up to 5. A full skin analysis will be done to give you a better idea of what you will need.
