SKINCARE DURING RAMADAN

Dr. Fiona Cowie,
GP Injector and Aesthetician at Dermalase Clinic

Remember to take care of your skin and give it some much-needed Tender Loving Care during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Fasting can cause dehydration due to decreased fluid intake, so drink at least 8 cups of water and juices between iftar and suhoor. This will keep your skin moisturized and supple. Avoid drinking carbonated and sugary drinks such as soda and caffeine, which can dehydrate your skin.

Saturated fats, carbohydrates, and processed foods should be avoided because they can cause flare-ups of acne, eczema, and psoriasis, as well as make skin look dull and pasty. Instead, eat foods high in antioxidants and vitamins to achieve flawless, glowing skin.

Your skin will be dehydrated not only as a result of fasting, but also as a result of high humidity and the constant AC indoors. All these factors can result in parched skin and lips, which no one wants. Remember to apply a generous amount of moisturizer to your face and body in the morning and evening. To avoid further irritation, moisturizers should be chemical- and paraben-free.

For the best absorption into the skin, apply your moisturizer immediately after showering. To avoid cracking, lips should be moisturized several times a day with Vitamin E serum or lip salves.

Moisturizers can help retain long lasting moisture in the skin to leave it looking and feeling beautiful.

To allow your skin to breathe, avoid wearing makeup during the day. Your daily skincare routine should begin with cleansing and toning, followed by exfoliation and the application of vitamin serums and day and night moisturizers. To remove makeup, use gentle cleansers rather than makeup wipes or harsh products.

Avoid bar soaps in favor of liquid soaps, which have a power pH and are less drying to your skin. Remember to use AHA (alpha hydroxy acids) cleanser and antioxidants. Vitamin C serums are essential for radiance and skin rejuvenation.

Dark circles and puffy eyes are common complaints during Ramadan, so try to get 7-8 hours of beauty sleep each night to allow your body to rejuvenate and repair.

Wish you all a Prosperous and Healthy Ramadan
